Injustice and Batman:Arkham games are games I play pretty often. DC fucks up their movies corporating the fuck out of it all without managing to make it shine as a brand unlike MCU, but in games Insomniac is the best we got and they're just a so-so developer amongst the better ones in the AAA industry, but Rocksteady is like next-level at what they do, and the Batman games in terms of lore, source material and most importantly, new ideas, is exceptionally well managed.ĭC for me. Marvel is all about branding and marketing. Though City was a bit of a clusterfuck of plotting at least it was all governed by brilliant game-ideas paving way for awesome representation of Batman villains as Zelda-like bossfights, each tied to an area you explored in the game alongside Rocksteady's mindfuck segments with Scarecrow or Joker trips, and even as standalone games Arkham Asylum is a self-contained story Arkham City is a self-contained story and Arkham Knight is a self-resolute experience. Rocksteady managed to create an excellent trilogy arc across Arkham Asylum-Arkham Knight as many issues as it had along the way. It feels like slimy storytelling to me where there's more concern about the brand than there is about selling the IP as a self-contained experience one game at a time. As an adult I've kind of lost what I used to like about Spider-Man outside of the excellent Raimi movies (give or take Spider-Man 3, yeesh) it's all about some timeline and canonical circlejerk whereas DC is about the idea and the myth behind the heroes and the Arkham games stick to being about that, whereas the Spider-Man game is already going all MCU on me spending deliberate moments in the game to set up a plot that does not resolve or conclude within the game itself.

I also find that Marvel is the geekier license overall. Spiderman has moments of levity that Arkham Knight and Origins didn't, which are both the worst Batman games imo, but even so, the attention to detail and uniqueness of Arkham Knight, as well as its originality of game design, easily trumps Spider-Man's jack of all trades approach and intrusive narrative design. DC is muuuuch better with the Rocksteady Batman games and even WB Montreal's Arkham Origins.
